Narrative

The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters (DFSCAL) is requesting funding from the technology fee to upgrade the teaching technology in room 205 in the Arts and Humanities building. (bldg. 52). The technology requested includes a ceiling mounted projector, teaching lectern and desktop computer. Room 205 is a medium-sized multi-purpose room that is used for upper division undergraduate and graduate level courses, graduate symposia and small group presentations. It is also used by Student Academic Services for student orientations to assist new students in registering for classes on-site. The current system in the room is approximately 12 years old and warrants an upgrade to FAU’s current smart classroom technology standard. The system upgrade will include installing a new projector and upgrading the teaching lectern components to be compatible. It will also include the purchase of a desktop computer. The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters (DFSCAL) is one of the largest colleges at FAU delivering 106,368 student credit hours of lower division instruction, 66,771 of upper division instruction and 4927 at the graduate level. DFSCAL offers 25 bachelor degree programs, 24 masters degree programs and a Ph.D. in comparative studies. These programs are currently serving a total of 4196 majors. AH 205 is a dedicated College allocated space that is being used increasingly as an instructional space. The college has recently ordered new tables and chairs that are designed with flexibility in mind to better serve classes that are scheduled in this room. In order to meet the pedagogical needs of courses and degree programs, the technology in room AH 205 needs to support the projection of PowerPoint presentations, film screenings, and other audiovisual material used by faculty and students. To upgrade the FAU standard e-classroom package in AH 205 would bring this room inline with other small classrooms at FAU with current technology.
