Narrative

Forty percent of all FAU students received student loans for Fall 2013.  That means 11,828 students took out student loans totaling more than 390 million dollars.  The need to create knowledgeable and responsible consumers of financial aid has never been greater.

Many of these students came to FAU ill-prepared to take on the task of responsible borrowing.   Rarely do students or even parents, take the time to carefully examine the agreements they are signing.   By producing a series of videos that present information directly by students to their peers, the assumption is that this essential information regarding student loans, credit cards, identity theft, scholarships, interest rates, loan repayments and budgeting will be more engaging than just the printed words on their computer screens.  In essence we want to create our own Financial Aid videos and make these videos available on the Financial Aid website, and in the lobby of the financial aid offices.

Student Goals:  Student understanding and knowledge of financial aid topics, and terms and conditions will be enhanced by the creation of a series of student-oriented and created, videos.  The videos will be short, factual and engaging.  The student created videos will air on the new Financial Aid website and will be available for download.

Staff Goals:  To increase student understanding of the financial aid options available to them at FAU and to create responsible and educated student borrowers.
