Narrative
VMware has released a new tools called User Environment Manager (UEM) and APP Volumes. These tools provide a consistent profile and application versions across machines. This will allow our students that use the College of Engineering and Computer Science VMware Environment in a much more efficient manner. This will benefit both Engineering students and non-Engineering students who use the VMware Environment.
Currently, we use a tool from VMware called View Persona. Unfortunately, View Persona is not supported and this causes slowdowns in user experience. The new UEM will solve some crucial problems we are facing when it comes to the VMware Environment performance. These two tools are included in the same quote (when you buy app volumes you also get UEM)
We are asking the techfee committee for $55000.00 funds to help purchase this new license for our 500 seat license of VMware that we currently have.
With the purchase of this software, we intend to present on how UEM helped FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science at local VMware user groups and at VMworld (pending approval).
These presentations will help others hear about what FAU is doing for their students and will showcase the world class computing environment we provide for our students.
