Narrative
The FAU Libraries Student PCs are the essential interface between our resources and our users. They are heavily used on a daily basis, not only for access to the Libraries’ catalog and the full-text resources we have online, but also for everything else a student does from registration, class participation through Canvas, researching and writing papers, to contact with family and friends. The replacement of older computers at end of life will give a drastic increase in hardware and software performance in the Instruction and Engagement Services student computer area(s). The All-in-Ones would be cleaner and more streamlined with fewer cables, granting more desk/work space and opening up more available power outlets at the computer desks for personal laptops and phones to be charged. Students will have more flexibility to work with multiple devices at the workstations. To maintain optimum access, we seek to replace older hardware by purchasing 65 All-In-One computers for the Boca Raton Campus Library Information and Engagement Services area, 4 All-In-One computers for the Alcoves and 2 Desktop PCs to upgrade the Microfilm Scanner stations. We also seek to replace 12 older PCs at the Harbor Branch Campus Library with new All-in-One PCs with upgraded hardware to fully support the GIS software.
