Narrative
Overview This proposal is for the expansion and upgrade of the Architecture Computer Lab/Activity Center (HEC 610) at FAU School of Architecture, Ft. Lauderdale. This lab currently provides computing resources for all FAU students and allow exposure to cutting-edge digital tools that facilitate innovation in design work. Currently, there are eight computers that are five years old and nearing the end of life. As digital media platforms become more embedded in the pedagogy, research, production, and representation of Architecture, the FAU School of Architecture - in order to be competitive both at regional and national levels - must provide the resources for our students to be able to explore creative ways of achieving their objectives. The program continues to evolve in order to keep up with industry standards and boldly set the pace for new and innovative ways of designing, representing, and building architecture. By expanding the Architecture Computer Lab / Activity Center and updating the software most relevant to the pedagogy of the program, students will have greater access to digital media platforms for longer periods of time, thereby providing them with greater opportunities for exploration and development of their assigned projects. Objective / Purpose of the Proposal The objective/purpose of this proposal is to fund the purchase of 12 Dell Precision All In One workstations. This proposal will fund computing environments accessible to all FAU students at the Ft. Lauderdale campus. Upper division students enrolled in the Architecture program and FAU students from other degree programs utilize the Architecture Computer Lab/Activity Center and it’s eight existing Precision workstations. The existing lab computers are five years old and out of warranty coverage.
