Narrative
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College (WHC) Admissions office proposes to add laptops to their tool set to recruit students to FAU; currently this office have no laptops whatsoever for its recruiters. With directive from President John Kelly, the WHC is tasked to double its 2019 incoming class and continue to grow the student body to 1000 students by 2023 (42% increase). The massive effort to recruit not only high achieving Florida students, but also out of state students to 25%, will place FAU recruiters on the road (and out of the office) for longer stretches of time. The WHC has been given the means to grow its team to a total of 5 admission counselors and its first Director of Admissions; each also work as travel recruiters and are “on the road” for 3-6 weeks at a time attending college fairs, school visits, recruiting conferences, etc. Currently, the WHC admissions staff have no means of communication or conducting in office tasks while on travel to approx. 250 visitations and events; the job does not stop while on the road. The WHC Admissions office is requesting laptops for the purpose of enhancing productivity while on travel. With the use of a laptop, a WHC recruiter, who also serve as admission counselors, will be capable of: • evaluating applications on a secured laptop for admissions to FAU and/or WHC • respond to emails from prospective students and/or their family to answer questions about application status, curriculum at WHC, upcoming open house events, etc. • maintaining communication with the WHC admissions office to facilitate all needed tasks; e.g. planning of upcoming on campus recruiting events • maintaining communication with the admissions office on the main campus to coordinate efforts The laptops will also be used during recruiting events on both the Jupiter and Boca campus (e.g. FAU Explore, Choose FAU) to check in guests, display information, assist in the application process, and collecting data from prospective students.
Facilities
Due to the request of mobile devices/tech (i.e. laptops) there is no need of space or facilities for this proposal.
Hardware Requirements
FAU admission team are often the first point of contact that a family has with FAU, thus the WHC would like to make the best effort of exhibiting all that is offered at FAU and WHC. The current proposal is a request for six laptops. Total cost for 6 laptops is below (rounded up to the nearest dollar amount) according to quotes provided FAU’s “Dell punchout” webpage (please see uploaded PDFs). The prices found on the FAU – Dell punchout webpage are negotiated/approved prices by FAU for the listed items. 6 LAPTOPS, Dell Latitude 5590, $6,294 Laptops will facilitate and enhance the recruitment, admission and onboarding of new students to FAU and/or WHC. The use of these laptops by admission recruiters will allow for a secure conduit to review and evaluate applications, maintain communication with both Jupiter and Boca campus admission offices, coordinate items for on campus recruiting events, etc. With increased productivity from the admissions office, the incoming class will grow exponentially!
Software Requirements
No new software is requested.

In an effort to increase the longevity of the requested equipment, we are requesting funds for the following items to protect laptops from exposure and usage/falls that have a potential of occurring while an admissions recruiter/staff member is on travel. Each item have been priced on Amazon (a tax-exempt account will be used for purchase) at the date of submission of the grant. A “screenshot” of the listed items has been included to show individual costs rounded to the nearest dollar. Below, the total cost for the listed items is indicated. • Carrying case for Dell Latitude 5590 (6): $156 • Cover for Dell Latitude 5590 (6): $120 • Mouse (6): $60 • Estimated Total Shipping Cost: $50 TOTAL OTHER COST: $386
Timeline
Equipment will be purchased as soon as funds are available. Our goal is to have the equipment available for travel recruiters/staff use beginning Summer and/or Fall 2019.
Sustainability
Oversight and management of the equipment will be accomplished by Mr. Joel Vander Horst, Director of Admission of Wilkes Honors College of FAU, and Ms. Elyse Greenfeld, Associate Director of Admissions of WHC of FAU.

Implementing Organization
The WHC admission staff will be responsible for implementing the proposed project with the use of the requested equipment. Minimal assistance will be needed from FAU OIT (Jupiter) office, such as, set up standard software (Microsoft Office, antivirus software, etc.) on the requested laptops. Additionally, logistical support (e.g. purchasing, etc.) will be managed by the Wilkes Honors College program assistant.
