Narrative

The purpose of this project is to improve student accessibility for students in transition through academic advising in the Boca Raton Transfer Students Services (TSS) office and the Jupiter Campus. To better meet the needs of our transitioning students, increased and intentional access to Starfish and the Success Networks will be required. Currently students have no means to login on-site for appointments or walk-in advising. Additionally, a strong need for remote advising in non-traditional locations throughout both campus sites exists. Students are familiar with their Success Network and the functionality. They’ve utilized this platform before and have come to expect the same accessibility throughout the entire university. As a part of Undergraduate Studies, UAS @ Jupiter is now serving all juniors and seniors working closely with TSS to ease in the transition of our transfer student population. Academic advisors on the Jupiter campus will be providing academic advising and academic coaching as needed to its current population of students. These initiatives will need to be tracked and assessed. Lobby: The entry area for both locations not only functions as the first impression for students, but allows for the communication process to begin alerting the academic advisor of the student’s arrival. Mobile: The use of tablets will allow for the mobility. Current position expectations requires the advisor to travel and advise at 2 year State College partners. Access to hardware that ties to starfish and other electronic systems is critical. There is a need for the Transfer Advisor in TSS, and both academic advisors in UAS @ Jupiter to have tablets to achieve this mobility. Student Scheduling: Additional student dedicated desktop computers will allow students to register for classes with the support of academic advisors nearby. Students will have the opportunity to register for courses during registration, immediately after orientations and during add/drop periods.
