Narrative
This tech fee proposal seeks to purchase a subscription to UrbanFootprint, a user-friendly planning and analysis platform software that can be used for teaching technical and non-technical urban and regional planning courses. Access to the most current industry tools is essential to the students’ program of study and training in the planning field. The UrbanFootprint software application utilizes proven methodologies and modern data analytics to produce advanced web-based city planning, design and analysis at all stages of student learning. It also addresses “the challenges of sustainable urban planning.” The software’s intuitive features and streamlined workflows aim to eliminate “the constraints planners normally face presented by outdated tools, disorganized data, inadequate analytics, inefficient processes, and ineffective reporting.” This software will enhance the students’ learning experiences and allow for more comprehensive training than currently possible with access to over 10,000 layers of data in the U.S. related to urban and environmental planning. Several faculty members would like to utilize the software in their coursework, and purchase of the software would benefit approximately 75 students in the School of Urban and Regional Planning. The requested software will greatly complement the current planning and design systems utilized in environmental and land use planning, hazards, housing, and urban design. It will also enable the students in the School of Urban and Regional Planning to develop powerful, efficient and sustainable designs and outcomes, contributing to FAU efforts towards excellence in education and research.
