Narrative
EE96 3d Printer Upgrades and Replacements The College of Engineering is committed to providing our faculty and students with as many technological skills as possible. Not only will this boost the students’ confidence, it will expose them to the type of equipment they will be expected to operate beyond the classroom. This proposal will provide the faculty with the necessary equipment to better prepare the students while simultaneously positioning the students for success in their chosen field(s). Additionally, this equipment is needed to maintain FAU’s ABET accreditation which takes into account equipment relevance. Specifically, we are continuing to upgrade the 3d print labs. We have several 3d printers that are no longer producing reliably and in are need of replacement. We have provided 3d services for any FAU student, using the 2015 techfee funds for Engineering Inventory. The 3d printing allows for an inexpensive rapid prototyping of items and enables the students to pursue the momentum of “research and development” (R&D) and exploration that would be diminished or lost by having to wait days before their part(s) arrive. This will keep the students engaged in their field and propel them forward. We have supported hundreds of Student Projects with the 2015 TechFee Funding. These 3d printers would benefit hundreds of students annually. The classes / projects that will most benefit from the Available Parts include: EEL 3118+4119 Electronics Laboratory 1+2 EEL 4220 Electrical Machines EEL 4652 Control Systems 1 EEE 3300 +4361 Electronics 1+2 CDA 3331 Intro Microprocessor Systems CDA 4630 Intro to Embedded System Design EGM 4045 Electro-Mechanical Devices EGN 4950+4952 Engineering Design 1+2 EML 4500+4262 Machine Design 1+2 COT 4935 - Senior Seminar Engineering Club Workshops, Meetings and Seminars Senior Undergraduate Student Projects Marine Robotics Club
