Narrative
The Student-Athlete Center for Academic Excellence (SACAE) serves about 500 student-athletes within the Oxley Center. The SACAE provides academic support on a daily basis to ensure the resources are available for student success. One of the resources students have access to are desktop and laptop computers, available at the SACAE and team travel. This proposal requests to add headphones to the existing desktop and laptop computers. Headphones are requested for students to utilize as an additional component to items such as listening to lectures or online modules. Students spend quite a bit of time at the SACAE, more than 12,000 hours in study hall in 17-18, which does not include the many who use the center on their own time. Students ask regularly if there are any headphones to utilize. This upgrade and access to an additional resource will resolve this issue and provide an enhanced technological capability and experience for students in their daily academic operations as well as recruitment of student-athletes (to show available resources). Additionally, headphones will also provide a more conducive environment with fewer distractions. The headphone splitters requested all students to hear the same information when needed. Pursuant to FAU’s Strategic Plan for the Race to Excellence, 2015-2025 and keeping with the university tradition of student success, this request contributes to student success and the implementation of the goals set forth by the university, specifically Vision and Boldness. This request supports FAU’s Vision to provide quality programs (3) as well as the values of excellence, innovation, student success, and a high level of customer service (4). Under the umbrella of Boldness, by providing student-athletes increased access to technology, this will also allow increased access to learning, including Learning (7). It also directly contributes to the point, “develop athletic programs that achieve success in Conference USA and beyond” (7).
