Narrative
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (OURI) supports faculty, staff and students engaged in research through a series of curricular and co-curricular opportunities. Undergraduate Research is a Platform of FAU’s Strategic plan; these efforts positively impact student retention and graduation (FAU Metrics). This proposal aligns with the 2015-2025 FAU Strategic Plan as a platform and extension of the Undergraduate Research and Inquiry: Distinction through discovery initiative. We are requesting 12 iPads with cases, and laptop with projector and clicker. Justification is below: 1. Expand workshops: OURI offers Student workshops throughout the year, which have interactive components where access to computers is necessary. Scheduling workshops in rooms with computers has been difficult. This will facilitate offering workshops (workshop kit on-the-go) in any room with/without technology. 2. Increase outreach. Student Ambassadors host classroom presentations, workshops, tabling events/orientations etc. where OURIs message is distributed to new and incoming students as well as to existing student audiences. Ipads will be used for engagement with OURI materials as well as to collect information related to student interests in research. 3. Assessment at OURI events such as the Undergraduate Research Symposium, where students present their research via posters and oral presentations. iPads will be used to collect surveys and judging rubrics to be brought on-site to collect data. Additionally, OURI hosts “matching” events where faculty are invited to share their research with groups of students in a social setting. Ipads will be used to facilitate faculty sharing their research to students. 4. Office walk-ins: When students visit, iPads will be accessible to students to use the devices as they navigate “research hub”, a resource developed by the Division of Research, in the office but also to review the workshop materials with the OURI ambassadors.

Hardware Requirements
We are requesting a one-time purchase of 12 iPad units to be used as real-time, portable, compatible, data collection and analysis tools. These units will be used at multiple events on multiple campuses each year to collect student and faculty data on co-curricular initiatives. In addition these iPads will be used by students who are unable to attend OURI workshops in person, they will be able to visit an OURI ambassador in the office and use the devices to review the workshop in a smaller setting. 12 Apple iPad Air, Wi-Fi, 64GB-Space Gray = $5,988.00 (total) In addition we are requesting a workshop on-the-go kit that will include a laptop with projector and clicker. This set up will allow for flexibility and transportation of our workshop series to present all over multiple campuses without the restrictions of a classroom. Price of the workshop on the go kit: Laptop and projector: Portable Projector (VANKYO LEISURE 3 Mini Projector, 1080P and 170'' Display Supported) = $79.99 HP Pavilion 14-ce2068s 14" Laptop, Intel Core i5, 8GB Memory, Win 10 Home = $399.99

Other Costs
We are requesting 10 cases for the iPads to ensure protection over multiple years, and iPad pencils for usability for judging and assessment collection. 12 Otterbox cases to protect the iPads= $971.40 12 iPad pencils = $1,188.00
Timeline
Ideally the project start date would be in the Spring of 2020 and would continue in the following years, otherwise the project will begin when the grants are allocated. Once purchased, the iPads will be routinely integrated into all appropriate co-curricular initiatives each semester and utilized to collect data real-time, and the workshop on-the-go kit will continue to be utilized by the OURI staff and student ambassadors in the upcoming years as a way to engage students throughout campus. This will allow for flexibility and “in the field” opportunities for the OURI staff and ambassadors to reach students.
Sustainability
No plan for sustainability is needed as we are requesting one-time funding for technology equipment (i.e. iPads, Laptop) to support our faculty and students.
Resource Matching
Training of the use of new equipment will be provided as in kind support for this proposal from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry. All personnel needed to collect real-time data at co-curricular events will also be provided by OURI.
Implementing Organization
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry, under the Office of Undergraduate Studies, will implement this project.
