Narrative

This Technology Fee proposal is being submitted to upgrade the classroom AV equipment in ten of the College of Education building classrooms. The classrooms are all located in the College of Education on the Boca Raton campus: ED111, ED112, ED113, ED114, ED116, ED120, ED124, ED125, ED332, and ED333. These classrooms are in need of new replacement projector screens. The current projector screens are the manual pull-down type. The screens are around 15 to 20 or so years old and have exceeded their life expectancy. The springs have become worn-out over the years and become problematic making it difficult to roll up or down the screens. We would like to replace these manual pull-down projector screens with new electric projector screens to ensure classroom presentation quality and reliability. These new projector screens would be in the widescreen format 16:10, which allows for a larger projected display image than the existing pull-down screens. We are also requesting to replace the old AV manual push-button controller to the newer interactive touch screen models. The touch panel models have enhanced features, such as intuitive graphical soft touch buttons that allow users to easily control and switch the classroom AV equipment from an easy to read display panel. The touch panels will improve the usability of the classroom AV technology and will modernize our classrooms and provide a consistent look and feel that is used throughout FAU classrooms. It is essential to upgrade the classroom technologies for our faculty and students. Updated technology in our classrooms will ensure reliability and enhance the overall teaching and learning experience of our instructors and students.

Other Costs

Electrical outlets to be added above the ceiling grid for new electric projector screens. The estimate for electrical outlets in 8 classrooms is $3,600. FAU facilities personnel will mount the electric screens in the classrooms. The labor estimate for mounting the 8 projector electric screens is $1600.

Timeline

Once the project is approved, we start the process of procuring the AV equipment asap so we could install the AV equipment during the Spring-Summer semester break.
