Narrative
The cat is out of the bag! FAU Libraries textbook affordability efforts are saving students money. In the last year, almost 2,100 unique users have accessed 608 individual titles that were funded through Tech Fees in 2017. This includes the complete download of 176 unique titles and 1,168 chapters. With the 2017 Tech Fee funds, textbooks have been acquired for many courses, including: (AMH 2010) US History to 1877. This course alone has close to 380 students enrolled each year; (BSC 1005) Life Science. There are nearly 1,000 students enrolled every Fall; (CHM 3080) Environmental Chemistry; (COM 4930) Special Topics; (CPO 4932) Environmental Politics; (EML 4930) Special Topics in Mechanical Engineering; (GEO 4167) Spatial Data Analysis; (GLY 3730) Beaches & Coasts; (GRA 2208) Typographic Design Lab 1; (ISM 4420) Social Media & Web Analytics; (LIN 2607) Global Perspectives on Language; (MAA 4402) Introductory Complex Analysis; (MMC 4501) Media Criticism; (MUG 3301) Instrumental Conducting 1; (MUG 4304) Instrumental Conducting 2; (NUR 3065) Health Assessment in Nursing Situations; (NUR 3115) Foundations of Caring in Nursing Situations; (NUR 3171) Creating Healing Environments; (POS 3703) Research Methods; (POS 4609) The Judicial Process; (WOH 2012) History of Civilization; (SPC 4271) Capstone Communication, Civic Life. Help us continue this resource that students have come to depend on by funding $75,000 to acquire perpetually licensed ebooks for FAU undergraduate students. These funds would primarily be spent in high enrollment courses or those with a high DFW rate. As more faculty take advantage of these books and promote them to their students, we continue to add new titles and see usage grow. Additional funding will ensure that students University-wide will continue to gain access to ebooks used as textbooks at no additional cost. Note: Our student count is calculated based on annual e-book (266,481) and e-journal (1,286,141) usage giving us a total of 1,552,622.
