Narrative

Our cloud based infrastructure in the College of Engineering and Computer Science currently is limited ~300 students.  This means at any given time only ~300 of our students can simultaneously logon to their cloud desktops.  This limit has been hit around fall 2013.

 

In addition, we now provide access to both engineering and non-engineering students that use the College’s Cloud Desktops for certain classes (Ex: College of business SPSS students).  In Fall of 2013 we had 355 non engineering students using our Cloud Desktops.  We are putting forth this tech fee proposal in an effort to address this user count limitation.  We would like to expand our software license from a user count 330 to 450 concurrent users.  In an effort to also optimize the student experience we need to add Persona Management software that would allow students to personalize their desktop experience across all login sessions.

 

By adding an additional 120 users to our cloud desktop license and Personal Management software for our students we will be enriching the student’s education experience.  At any given time an additional 120 students will be access the cloud desktops and be able to work remotely on their class assignments.

Timeline

The additional 120 licenses will be deployed immediately upon being awarded.  The Flex-IO and Unidesk software will be deployed Summer of 2014.

Resource Matching

The College of Engineering will be providing the $15,000 renewal cost for the existing 330 software license.  Engineering will also provide the personnel resources for this project
