Narrative
The Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education offers elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs that include instructional technology courses for pre-service teachers. The course EME 2040, Introduction to Technology for Educators, is the only technology courses required of secondary education majors and is one of two courses required for elementary education majors. It is critical to provide students in this course with hands-on experience with the types of technological tools they will be expected to integrate into their future classrooms. This includes how to integrate STEM education activities, however, the teaching materials to do this are expensive, and instructors cannot afford to purchase them to use in their classrooms. For the proposed project, we would like to purchase STEM education kits and materials so that our pre-service educations can apply theory to actual practice by taking part in hands-on STEM education activities. The items will be organized on a mobile cart so they make be easily moved from classroom to classroom. The course is taught by faculty and adjuncts who are eager to implement these tools into the classroom. The requested items include: Little Bits-STEAM Student Set MakeyMakey Classic Kit Lego Education We Do Core set Little Bits Electronics Kit Sphero Mini Activity Kit Dot and Dash 3D Printer filaments-thread Dremel 3D printer STEM Makerspace Cart
