Narrative
The proposal is to fund a classroom set of laptops and corresponding storage cart. These would be available for all classes taught at the Davie and Fort Lauderdale campuses and available for request by faculty. A need was first identified by faculty teaching videoconference courses that cannot be placed in a traditional instructional computer lab at Davie or Fort Lauderdale, but where students would benefit from being able to work at a computer during the class. Additional needs that would be met by this proposal: classes currently use instructional computer labs and sometimes have to adjust time/day to get a lab or classes where we are restricted by capacity limits of the labs. Partial list of courses where this sometimes occurs: FIN 4424, ACG 4401, HSA 3111, GEB 3213, ISM classes, and MAR 4721. The Davie campus has, as part of the efforts to increase enrollment, begin to offer a large number of fast track or part-of-term courses that are required to be matched with each other to better utilize classroom space. The Fort Lauderdale Campus is looking to do the same starting in Fall 2020. With the option of classroom laptops, we could pair a fast track that normally uses a lab with another fast track that usually uses a lecture room and use classroom space more efficiently that way.
