Narrative

SolidWorks is an industry leading 3D Modeling CAD software package. SolidWorks is used by Faculty, Staff, and Students, across multiple colleges and disciplines here at FAU, including Engineering, Science, Arts and Letters, and FAU High. SolidWorks is used to design 3D models, which can then be transferred to machines such as CNC Lathes, Laser Cutters, and 3D Printers, to produce physical parts. With the 500 seat Campus License, we can install SolidWorks on every lab computer, connecting to a network license server for concurrent license check outs. We can also provide a local license key to Faculty, Staff, and Students, for local installation on their personal devices. The purchase price for SolidWorks is typically $6000 per year. When purchasing a 3 year renewal, the total cost is $12000, which is a significant savings. The 3 year renewal quote is attached to this proposal.

None. College of Engineering is already maintaining the network license server. No additional hardware is required.

Timeline

License Activation and Renewal date is July 31 of each year. Once purchase of the Solidworks Campus License is complete, we can start using the licenses immediately.

Sustainability

The license will be purchased as a 3yr license for cost savings. At the end of 3 years, we will submit for another Tech Fee. If not awarded, we will have to collaborate with various colleges to contribute funding.
