Narrative
The Jupiter Mac Lab in AD 122 on the Jupiter Campus hosts the Honors College’s digital art, scientific computation, and data visualization classes. It also hosts all creative classes in the Honors College’s new Digital Game Development Minor. The current iMacs in the lab date back to 2011 and 2013. They have become slow and difficult to maintain and secure. Our multimedia-rich classes are fast-paced and we need fast machines to keep up with us. We are looking to replace our current computers with new iMacs. We are also proposing a new state-of-the-art AV system for the lab to make learning complex technologies intuitive and to facilitate trailblazing hybrid instruction. The new AV system will include the following: Wireless projection from computer/phone/tablet/document camera using Airmedia and simplified control & automation of room equipment through a lectern touch panel. We also propose installing a room camera and microphone system to facilitate seamless interaction with students learning remotely. With the expansion of the Jupiter Campus into Data Science, Digital Game Development, and Computational Neuroscience we are expecting increased enrollment in computing classes in the future. Therefore, an investment in a computer lab upgrade would be greatly appreciated by an increasing number of students.
