Narrative
The FAU Broward Administration is requesting funding from the technology fee to install a three-display LED digital presentation system on the first floor of the HEC building Fort Lauderdale campus. The multi panel LED system would be installed in the MetroLab vestibule and be viewable to pedestrians and vehicles passing by the building on Las Olas Blvd. MetroLab is the FAU Fort Lauderdale Campus student exhibition space that supports the academic programs as a venue for showcasing the work of 400-500 students each semester in Architecture, Graphic Design and the Multimedia: Film, Video and New Media track. This project extends the ability of the MetroLab space to showcase student work beyond the static gallery installation (with limited access hours) to include a dynamic 24/7 LED display programmed with a multimedia sequence of student projects including animations, graphics, photography, videos, architectural models, 3-D virtual renderings and more. The looped multimedia sequence created by students under the direction of faculty will present current student work and be refreshed each semester. Students will be involved in the presentation each term from start to finish. Positioned inside the center three windows facing Las Olas Boulevard, the LED digital presentation system will extend the visibility for FAU student work to a public audience and will be viewable day and night. The benefit of funding this project goes beyond the initial installation of technology. Showcasing student work each semester through an outward facing digital presentation system increases student self-confidence, while promoting awareness of FAU’s talented students’ abilities to the business community. This leads to internships and employment opportunities. Attached is a MOV file with an example of the depth perception and resolution the proposed system provides. Prior to posting each multimedia sequence will be approved by FAU Creative Services to insure it meets FAU brand guidelines.
