Narrative
As artificial intelligences become more relevant throughout the years, there is a need to adapt our nursing simulations in involve more life-like simulations to help further prepare our students for their future careers. Alex is one of the first full-body patient communication simulators that sees, listens and talks to it caretaker through artificial intelligence. Alex will be used by both our faculty and students to further enhance the learning experiences with our Nursing Simulations. Alex has a built-in IrisCam in one of its eyes that will allow the interaction between the student and Alex to be viewed live or recorded. This allows our instructors to review/adapt the training based on the interactions that they experience. Alex has scenario-driven, instructor-controlled situations that promotes a more realistic training in patient communication. Alex has both speech and touch recognition, where it will automatically respond in a conversational style based on pre-defined medical interview questions. Using advanced cloud-based speech recognition, natural language processing and speech synthesis, ALEX gives scenario-specific answers to thousands of medical interviewing questions and countless variations. Some of the other cores features of Alex includes Live CPR Metrics, where the student can visualize and receive feedback on CPR performance in real-time. There is also a simulated patient monitor, which displays the patient’s vitals and waveforms with support for multiple physiological states and automatic progressions. There is also the Essential functionality core feature that includes palpable pulses, automated breathing, and many more. Alex is an ideal simulator to help train students to learn more in-depth critical thinking skills, decision-making & priority-setting skills, how to conduct initial patient assessments, how to conduct clinical interviews and to receive feedback on procedures such as i.v administration, wound care and catheterization.
