Narrative
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in response to industry need and student demand has introduced machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence in undergraduate and graduate programs. The recently launched MS in Artificial Intelligence has see high demand. Undergraduate students are opting to work on class projects in areas related to deep learning and machine learning.
We have an unmet need for workstations with GPUs such as NVIDIA RTX 3080 that are needed for student to learn and explore. While some of the students have access to the GPU nodes on the FAU HPC, that access is limited. Further more, students do not have the ability to install and explore the many tools and frameworks available.
This projects requests funds for 30 GPU workstations to provide students with better access equipment and helps students gain hand on experience in the critical areas of machine learning and deep learning.
Workstations are expected to cost about $2000 and a monitor and keyboard are budgeted at $250.
Total budget requested in $2,250 x 30 = $67, 500
