Narrative
The photography area in the Department of Visual Arts and Art History is requesting funds to replace five older model digital cameras. We would also like to add five additional digital cameras to our photo equipment inventory available for student checkout, along with a flash, two lenses, and 5 protective camera bags. The current cameras are in high demand and have been heavily used over the years. They have been through several rounds of repairs and now need to be replaced so students have invaluable access to working equipment and the latest camera technology in the entry level professional range. Adding addition cameras will allow more students to utilize the equipment and potentially be able to check out cameras for longer periods of time. The camera checkout system also provides student access to equipment they might be unable to purchase. This gets us closer to our goal of preparing students for work in the field of photography no matter what their socioeconomic status is. The photo area also provides a digital camera, tripod, and lights for studio art student artwork documentation. Artwork documentation takes place multiple times a year and is predominantly used by students documenting their artwork in studio arts in preparation for the required BA and BFA portfolio review that takes place each semester. This makes at least one of our cameras unavailable for checkout during artwork documentation days so addition cameras will help with equipment availability during these periods.
