Narrative
The University Marching Band performs at home football games for thousands of FAU students, faculty, staff, and community members. They are one of the most visible student organizations on campus with significant community outreach to the public schools and numerous public performances at local civic events. The University Marching Band has grown significantly in recent years, and currently has 116 student members; however, the total number of students impacted by the University Marching Band includes thousands of students that attend football games each year. The University Marching Band is a class (MUN 1110/4113) that meets outdoors at a football field for instruction several days each week. Every class period requires a complete setup and takedown of the sound system, ladders, water jugs, and field markers. As such, all classroom equipment is portable, battery operated, and heavy duty for outdoor use. The University Marching Band needs a new portable speaker system to replace a current one that is no longer fully functional and many years out of warranty. The new system would primarily serve to amplify instructors while they teach music and drill formations; but, the new system also has the ability to feature student soloists during performance. This proposal includes the amplification system, microphones, and necessary equipment to fulfill this purpose.
