The technology needs of instructors to
effectively deliver materials to students constantly evolve and in order to
meet the changing needs we are requesting to upgrade four e-classrooms to the
new digital standard that has been set by OIT and AVI. The classrooms that we
are requesting to be upgraded are in the Education Bldg. 47 on the Boca Raton
Campus- ED313 and Field House 11A classroom.
The technology in these classrooms are analog based (VGA) currently will not
support the newer HDMI digital standards. Having no HDMI connections
for newer laptops has now become an issue for professors and/or students
needing to project their materials from their newer laptops. We also have older
VHS players in these classrooms that will need to be upgraded to Blu-ray/DVD
players. The current projectors are standard 4:3 standard VGA so they
would also need to be changed to the newer projectors that will support
HDMI.
We will need to order two new computers - Dell Desktops OptiPlex 7020 small form factor, one for each classroom.
The cost for both systems will be: $2200
AVI-SPL has given us an AV quote for setting up these two classrooms:
ED313 classroom - $16,576.79
FH11a classroom - $16,839.66
Total: $35616.45
A small minor project has already been submitted for adding the necessary electric and the necessary conduits for AV and networking to the rooms. The project# for ED313 is P-6860 and the project# for Field House 11A is P-6851.
The electrician quote for adding electric, and two conduits for network and AV in ED313: $3222.00

Patch and re-paint the one wall in ED313 due to the electrician opening up the wall for installing the electrical conduit: $300
We will also need to add network ports in both classrooms ED313 and Field House 11A.

We will look to upgrade both classrooms as soon as funding is available. We would likely schedule the upgrade during the Summer 2015 intercession break.
The College of Education Technology Support Team will implement the project with AVI and guidance from OIT.
