Narrative

The purpose of this project is to enhance the effectiveness and reach of the Honors College advising services offered on the Jupiter campus. The college’s enrollment is increasing each year, and as such, the advising staff will need to be able to work in various technology-void spaces to access student and academic information for advising purposes, including at events such as orientations and open houses. Therefore, we request funding for four iPad Air 2 tablets, one Surface Pro tablet, and a wireless color printer to be set up at events for distributing documents such as the Honors College Audit Form and DARS audits.

These tools will also allow us to provide information to students on the Jupiter campus in a manner comparable to the portability that is offered to students by the University Advising Services office on the Boca Raton campus, which employs the use of tablet technology. Similar to UAS, we will be able to demonstrate computer applications and show students where to find various policies, procedures, and resources both within and outside of the University.  In addition to providing portable advising, the tablets will allow the college’s advising staff to offer effective and convenient services to students in various locations including dorms, dining halls, and classrooms.  We hope that the convenience of the additional advising services, combined with the ability to engage students in more informal settings, will increase student help-seeking, persistence, and retention.
