Narrative

This is for cloud-based desktops available to all the College of Engineering and Computer Science students. The total number of registered students for the College in Fall 2023 is about 4,000 based on the roster that we use to provide access to the virtual desktops to the students. The College of Engineering and Computer Science provides virtual desktops for students using the existing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Since these are virtual desktops, students can access them at “any time” or from “anywhere.” Engineering students can access these virtual desktops and the software installed on them from most available mobile devices and standard PCs and laptops. We are asking the tech fee committee to please provide funds in the amount of $38,000 to renew the support for the VMware License. The cost is an estimate calculated based on the cost for 2022, with a five percent increase yearly.
