Narrative
Student Teachers in the College of Education are trained in the Marzano Focused Evaluation Model. This was initiated with the EXCEED Grant in 2015 as a way to align preservice teachers to the local classroom and also familiarize the candidates with the resource library included with the Marzano package. Using the software our local school districts (Broward and Palm Beach Counties) also use, a simple transition from preservice teacher to classroom teacher was created, making our teacher candidates extremely marketable to our districts. The EXCEED grant funded the Marzano software from 2015-2017 and then also purchased a renewal contract from 2017-2021 and again from 2021-2024. Utilizing this software has been priceless in the development of preservice teachers in that they are using the same software they will use as professional educators. Additionally, the Office for School Engagement uses the data collected for seminars with University Supervisors, accreditation purposes, as well as overall support of student growth. This proposal requests the purchase of three years of the Marzano Package, which also includes the resource library. FAU students will utilize this software as preservice teachers, which will ultimately prepare them for their observations as full-time teachers. Both Broward and Palm Beach School Districts use the Marzano Model to train and evaluate their educators. Graciously, they continually invite our students, University Supervisors, and faculty to professional development trainings. This grant will allow student teachers, Clinical Educators, and University Supervisors to continue using the software to replicate the evaluations of a teacher. With this purchase, our teachers will continue to enter the workforce prepared and with knowledge of their evaluation.
