Narrative
The Geosciences department is requesting funds to upgrade the Technology/AV Equipment in our lecture/Lab classroom in the Science building, SE 457. In our post-COVID era, it has become imperative that our classrooms be designed to accommodate in-person, online and hybrid learning. SE 457 functions both as a lecture classroom and a specialized GIS/remote sensing computer lab. We need the updated smart classroom technology to accomplish this, particularly for our highly desired GIS courses. Other than the instructional computer that we replaced this year, the existing equipment is woefully outdated and no longer meets the on-going demands of our courses and students. For the last two years we have had to “band-aide” the system numerous times and several key functions no longer work at all. Therefore, funding is being requested to modernize the Technology/AV Equipment to bring this classroom to FAU-OIT standards. The plan would be to complete the project upgrades during the summer to be ready for Fall 2024 classes. The number of students impacted is approximated 200 per semester. Courses are GEA 4275, GEA 6277, GEO 4920, GIS 3015C, GIS 4035C, GIS 4037C, GIS 4043C, GIS 4048C, GIS 4054C, GIS 4102C, GIS 4118, GIS 5033C, GIS 5038C, GIS 5051C, GIS 5100C, GIS 5103C, GIS 6032C, GIS 6061C, GIS 6112C, GIS 6127, GIS 6306.
