Oxford Bibliographies is a dynamic, evolving, and modern resource built by a community of scholars and students from around the globe. It offers exclusive, authoritative research guides combining the best features of an annotated bibliography and a high-level encyclopedia. The Bibliographies guide researchers to the best available scholarship across a wide variety of subjects. The FAU Libraries currently own a collection of five Oxford Bibliographies: Education, Islamic Studies, Latin American Studies, Latino Studies, and Social Work.

Each article within a bibliography includes an introduction written by a top scholar in the field and also features original commentary and annotations. Articles serve as authoritative guides to the current scholarship, and all subject areas are overseen by an Editor in Chief, Editorial Board, and a team of peer reviewers. Oxford University Press continues to build a broad range of new subject areas each year. At the time of publication, each discipline launches with over 50 articles of content, amounting to over 500 to 600 new subject articles annually.

The strength of Oxford Bibliographies Online is the annual review of every single article in every single subject to ensure users remain guided to the most relevant sources in each of the disciplines. Bibliographies are updated regularly, with 50-75 articles added per year to each subject area. New article topics are selected to ensure that the subjects offer full and balanced coverage as determined by the Editor in Chief and Editorial Board. New topics are introduced based on scholarly feedback, editorial input, and research demands.

Target Student Population to Be Served by the Project and Benefit to Student Learning

E-books such as Oxford Bibliographies Online are ideal for students in both distance learning and face-to-face courses. They provide simultaneous access to all students, faculty, and staff, which is a great benefit to multi-campus institutions such as FAU. This particular interdisciplinary set of subject bibliographies will benefit the many undergraduate students who are embarking on research projects for courses in the College of Arts and Letters, College of Business, College for Design and Social Inquiry, and the College of Science. (Visual Arts & Art History, Communication & Multimedia Studies, Criminal Justice, Management, and Psychology have some of the largest headcount enrollments for their respective colleges. The students taking courses in these areas will find Oxford Bibliographies Online to be useful research tools for their assignments.) The Bibliographies will serve as a starting point to the research process with the 400-500 word introductory essays leading students to related and authoritative resources and citations. This is a preferable alternative to other online resources such as Wikipedia or other general websites.

Space Administration

No physical space is needed for Oxford Bibliographies Online. The e-books are available directly from Oxford University Press’s online platform. The resources would be accessible 24/7 to current students, faculty, and staff on campus and remotely through EZproxy, and managed by the FAU Libraries.
