Narrative
The FAU Libraries is embarking on a multi-year program to teach students about the use of AI in Research. Our focus will be on tools, use-cases, and ethics. We will focus on practical knowledge that students conducting research (both graduate and undergraduate) need to correctly utilize AI tools. Our request is to license the BoodleBox AI platform, which enables our student participants to access a range of Generative AI platforms through a single interface, eliminating the need to switch between tools. While we will focus on both free and paid tools, utilizing BoodleBox will enable our students to compare and contrast the capabilities of different platforms.
We plan to offer a flipped classroom course that can be taken by students utilizing a combination of pre-recorded sessions in Canvas followed by in-person activity and discussion sessions, where students can learn in person and from one another. The course is currently being developed in-house by FAU Library faculty and is expected to be ready in Spring 2025. If we are awarded the grant, we will incorporate BoodleBox starting in the Summer of 2025.
Generative AI is here to stay in academic settings. We are here to engage with students and seek a bi-directional communication system where we, as educators, can share our experiences and knowledge on its appropriate use, while simultaneously adapting to the changing needs of our students and workforce. Your support of this proposal will enable our students to be trained on the tools that will empower them to use AI effectively and wisely.
