Enhance Honors: upgrading Wilkes Honors College Admissions office
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College Admissions office proposes to upgrade the Welcome Entrance and Conference room with current technology standards; currently the Honors Office of Admission have no technology to display information about the college, welcome guests or collect necessary data from all visitors. We see hundreds of students, parents, and guests a year for campus tours, information sessions, and special open house/preview events. The space is also used during our Scholars Day event, in which students compete for various scholarships, including fellowships that cover full tuition, room and board costs.
The Honors Admissions office is requesting hardware (please see list below and attachment) for the purposes of welcoming guests, displaying information, assisting in the application process, recruitment of students, and collecting data from prospective students at college fairs (our 2 admissions counselors visit ~60 college fairs a year across the state of Florida as well as New York, Texas, and Puerto Rico) and during visits to our campus and FAU Boca campus (including large scale events, e.g. Expo/Open House). Indeed, we are often the first point of contact that a family has with FAU, thus we would like to make the best effort of exhibiting all that is offered at FAU and Wilkes Honors College.
The proposed enhancement of the Honors Admissions is aligned with FAU’s 2015 Strategic Plan. We will be contributing to FAU’s new marketing effort to promote a brand of “National reputation for excellence” and serve as a “brand center” on the Jupiter, MacArthur campus. Another goal of FAU’s Strategic Plan in which the proposed efforts will contribute to is Place. By enhancing our office space with state of the art technology we will be “enhance[ing] the physical space to build upon the cultural, demographic and environmental characteristics…” of our campus community.
Thank you for your consideration and opportunity to submit modifications to our proposal. Any change in the proposal is highlighted in yellow (within the online proposal and the uploaded supporting documents). I have taken all suggestions from Mr. Mark De Hass (OIT, Jupiter) and modified the requested hardware. The total requested cost has been reduced by $1,552.95 for a new grand total of $6,634.49.
NOTE: costs from the two quotes (quote 1_modified and quote 2) were summed and entered into the "Resource Spreadsheet"
We propose to enhance our office with the following:
Welcome Sign (currently a white board sign): Floor stand with iPad 2 Air display
Each of our scheduled daily campus tours, families are greeted by a sign welcoming the student by first name. This personalized touch has been commented on and praised by visiting families.
In-house data collection (currently printed cards): Table top iPad 2 Air (for 2)
Each family or perspective student how visits fills out a card whose data we use for future reference and metrics. Currently, the analog system is after each visitor fills out the card, the data must be manually entered; a time consuming process.
Wall Display (currently none): Samsung DB40E (40”) LED Display
The wall display will be used to view slide shows and videos about FAU and Wilkes Honors College. Additionally, admission counselors will be able to walk perspective students through the application process as well as navigating the various webpages that facilitate in enrollment to FAU (e.g. payment of tuition deposit).
Display and data collection during recruitment (currently none): Table top iPad 2 Air (for 4)
A portable device to use to market our brand (videos/slide shows) as well as collect data from perspective students by our admission counselors at various recruiting events and open houses.
Camera and accessories (currently none): Canon EOS T5i
Will be used to continually document (photo and video) events of student life, academic events and community events that occur on our campus and can be used for future marketing campaigns.
