Narrative
The department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (CEECS) is proposing to teach an advanced level course on Digital Systems Design for undergraduate students. This course introduces the design of complex digital systems using hardware description languages and requires the students to have access to field programmable gate array (FPGA) boards to implement lab assignments. It will enhance student knowledge on the new methodologies for the design of digital systems used in the real-world applications such as smart phones. The department is proposing to purchase 35 FPGA boards along with the required software and programming tools from Xillinx Inc.
Facilities
Hardware Requirements
35 Xilinx FPGA boards.
Software Requirements
Xilinx ISE and/or Vivado
Personnel Costs
There is no additional personnel cost. Implementation of this hardware will be performed by the college of engineering and computer science technical service group.
Other Costs
NA
Timeline
As soon as the fund become available we will place the order for the FPGA boards and will make them ready in the lab. The course will be offered in Fall 2017.
Sustainability
These boards will be used for at least 3 years depending on the advancement of technology.
Resource Matching
The Xilinx company will match 3:5 for the Nexys4-DDR FPGA boards (3 donated for every 5 purchased).
Implementing Organization
The technical Service group at the College of Engineering and Computer Science will be installing the boards and software by the supervision of the faculty from CEECS.
