The FAU Libraries are requesting $19,823.75 to purchase collections of Spanish language e-books from Digitalia Hispánica and JSTOR.
Digitalia Hispánica is a platform for scholarly e-books from Spain, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and other Latin American countries. Users can simultaneously search or browse across multiple collections in subjects such as Architecture, Art, Caribbean Studies, Spanish Literature Criticism, and Religion. The FAU Libraries would select 300 titles for $12,000 ($40 per title) for permanent access. Titles will be selected at the time of purchase.

JSTOR is a digital library of academic journals, books, and primary sources. This part of the proposal is for the purchase of three JSTOR e-book collections. Books at JSTOR offers Spanish-language scholarly e-books from leading publishers, such as El Colegio de México, Ediciones UC, and Marcial Pons Ediciones de Historia, representing a wide range of disciplines in History, Political Science, Sociology, and Literature. The collections feature unlimited access (Digital Rights Management-free), which allow for unlimited concurrent use and unlimited chapter downloads and printing. The e-books work just like the journals on JSTOR, providing a familiar user experience for researchers. The FAU Libraries would purchase Sets 1, 2, and 3 of the Spanish Collection. JSTOR is offering a 35% discount if we purchase all three collections at one time.

Target Student Population
As the most diverse university in the Florida SUS, FAU has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. The e-books from both collections will benefit undergraduate and graduate students who are native or non-native Spanish speakers in all disciplines. These collections support student success, discovery, inquiry, and instruction. Students taking Spanish classes and learning the language can also use these resources to complement their coursework and research projects.
Project Sustainability, Space Needs, Administration
The requested amount will cover the one-time purchase of these e-book collections. For Digitalia Hispánica, an annual maintenance fee is applied one year after the initial purchase unless the institution purchases more titles. Such fees will be paid by the FAU Libraries and not through any Tech Fee funds. There are no maintenance fees for the Spanish-Language Books at JSTOR collections.
Digitalia Hispánica e-books are online and available through the Digitalia Hispánica platform. Books at JSTOR are online and available through the JSTOR platform.
Timeline
We anticipate providing access to both Spanish-language collections as soon as funds are available and, for Digitalia Hispánica, after titles have been selected.
