Narrative

***Note: The number of students impacted will be substantial. Each semester students going though multimedia production classes will benefit from using the equipment purchased though this tech fee. Please note, that 500 students is a conservative estimate at this point in the process. We anticipate four production courses per semester here on the Boca campus, each hosting at least 20 students. Here on the Boca Raton campus we have a multimedia studies/journalism track, however, traditionally, this track has not been able to support production classes on this campus. Now there is an opportunity to accomplish these production offerings here on the Boca campus. However, there is a critical need for the equipment to assist in doing so. Students will benefit in a number of ways. First, to be competitive in the digital media marketplace, students must be able to meet the new multimedia expectations in the industry. To do so, they must have access to equipment that helps them meet those goals. Additionally, working with professional grade equipment provides students the confidence they need to enter the new, dynamic world of media production. Currently, students here on the Boca campus are denied this essential opportunity due to a lack of equipment.

There is an urgent need for this equipment on the Boca Raton campus. If approved, this tech fee would be put to use immediately.

Sustainability

This equipment is specifically for use on the Boca campus, which will help grow and further establish the multimedia studies/journalism program here at this FAU campus. Furthermore, this equipment will be available to multitudes of students who choose to study primarily in the journalism track here at Boca, which will enhance their internship and industry opportunities. This equipment will sustain the growing journalism and multimedia program here at Boca for many years to come. Finally, this equipment will serve not only a single production class, but many classes of this nature on the Boca campus.
